Judy Rice dedicated her life to ballet with remarkable passion, discipline, and grace. Since joining the University of Michigan faculty in 1990, she became a cornerstone of the SMTD community and a powerful source of inspiration to aspiring dancers. She was honored as the inaugural recipient of the SMTD Teaching Excellence Award, reflecting her lifelong commitment to artistic excellence and education.
A graduate of the National Ballet School of Canada, Judy performed with leading companies across North America, including the Joffrey Ballet, the National Tap Dance Company of Canada, and American Ballet Comedy. Her performances were widely admired for their technical precision and expressive artistry, earning her respect throughout the dance world.
Beyond her performing career, she was deeply committed to teaching and mentorship. Over more than three decades, she influenced countless students at the University of Michigan, Broadway Dance Center, Pace University, and various professional dance programs.
