It is with deep love and sadness that the passing of Marilyn Kay Buckner is announced. She passed away peacefully at her home on May 9, 2026, at the age of 85, with her two children holding her hands. Marilyn was born on February 5, 1941, in Oklahoma City to Clyde and Virginia (Nusz) Waters, and lived a life marked by devotion to family, education, and community service.
Marilyn spent her early years near Loyal, Oklahoma, where she developed a strong love for family, animals, and the outdoors. A proud graduate of Loyal Public Schools in 1959, she excelled academically and athletically, serving as pitcher on a state championship softball team. After graduation, she worked in local banking in Kingfisher and Hennessey, building early ties within her community.
In December 1959, she married Lloyd “Pete” Buckner, and together they built a life rooted in farming, faith, and family. For 65 years, they shared a devoted partnership defined by hard work, love, and mutual support. Marilyn became known for her strength, humor, and unwavering dedication to those she loved.
In 1974, she began a remarkable 41-year career as the Hennessey High School secretary, where she became a guiding presence for generations of students. Her compassion and encouragement left a lasting impact, earning her recognition in the Hennessey High School Hall of Fame and the Lifetime Eagle Award.
Marilyn also remained active in her community, enjoying dancing with her husband, attending local events, and serving in organizations such as the Child Study Club, First United Methodist Church, and the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State.
She is survived by her children Steve (Diann) and Melanie; grandchildren Olivia, Brok, Staci, Cody, Colby, Ryan, and Sailor; her brother Charlie Waters; and many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Pete, her parents, and other loved ones.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Hennessey High School Auditorium.
She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored for the lasting legacy she leaves behind.
