The Merkel, Texas community is mourning the tragic loss of 62-year-old Steven Greg Anderson, who died Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision just east of the city. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of Wimberly Road and FM 1235, about three miles east of Merkel. Investigators said Anderson was traveling eastbound in a 2011 Ford F-150 when a 2018 Toyota Camry, driven by a 19-year-old Abilene man, allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign before entering the intersection.
Authorities reported that the impact of the collision caused Anderson to be ejected from his vehicle. Despite rapid response and life-saving efforts by emergency personnel, he was pronounced deceased at the scene at 4:50 p.m. The driver of the Camry sustained minor injuries and declined medical transport.
